As you can see the big update to the page hasn't happened quite yet. Its getting closer. This week I've been spending my time switching the site to a new hosting service. There are a couple of bad links that I will be fixing but please let me know if you find something that is not work.

Things are going slow on the new version of the website but I am vowing to have everything complete by April 2005 which will mark the 10th anniversary of the website. Its gone by quick. Look for bits and pieces of the new website before then.

You may have also noticed the link on the main page for Mozilla's Firefox browser. I'm promoting it because I believe strongly in it. In my job I see a lot of machines that have been messed up with Spyware/Adware and most of it comes through Microsoft's Internet Explorer. I've switched all my systems over to the Firefox browser and it works great. I haven't had a lick of problem with anything being installed on my computer without me knowing about it. Take a minute and check out Firefox. If your not happy you can just go back to IE.

Get Firefox!

Well, as we head into the last stretch of summer, I must admit that the new website development has been going slow. As things slow down a bit I will be pushing to work on finishing the base pages and getting the new site up and running and adding improvements a bit later. Look for something to happen this fall.

As for the swap page, glad to see it is getting good usage. Keep up the posts and hopefully I can help you sell those parts in your garage or find that Studebaker you've always wanted.

Updates

Things are going well on the Studebaker Swap Page. Glad to see so many of you using it. The redesigned site is coming along slow but sure. As it nears completion I will make it available for those of you who would like a sneak peek and would like to give some feedback.

News and Questions

Well, it has been almost a week now that the new swap system has been online and everything seems to be going quite well. As always, I'm happy to see the many ads that have been posted in the last week. If you experience any problems, please be sure to drop me an e-mail.

Secondly, I've been going through the pages that were once well maintained on the swap page but now have fallen into disrepair. Two of these pages are the Meets page and the Ask The Net page.

The Meets page will definitely be going through some radical changes. It will become very much like the swap page in that you will be able to submit your meets to the page and you will be able to search for meets that are on specific date, locations, and such. I hope for it to be as dynamic as the swap page has become. I will be working toward this and hopefully in a relatively short time will have a first version up for all to try.

The Ask The Net page is another story though. I'm not sure if there would be much interest in a WebBoard on this site for people to converse through. There are already a couple of these on the Web and with the alt.autos.studebaker Usenet News Group seemingly well used I'm not sure that another place to post questions would be used. Your input is appreciated on this topic. If you'd like to see something put up here, just drop me an e-mail and let me know. In the meantime, I've put up a link to alt.autos.studebaker on Google Groups so you can browse the newsgroup there.

Any Other Ideas??

Don't see something here that you think would be useful? I'm always open to new ideas for the site. Just drop me a line and let me know.

Happy Studebakering,
Keith

New Swap Page Online!

I am happy to announce the largest change to the Studebaker Swap page in its over 8 year history. (I can't believe it has been that long, but sure enough, the page was put up in its first form in 1995.)

The internals of the swap page have been completely rewritten to give it much more functionality. Although you may not see a lot of change on the outside, I have added new features to the page that will make it much more flexible.

Here's What's new:

* If you provide a valid e-mail address, a summary of your ad will be sent to that e-mail address. This e-mail will also contain your ad's ID and passcode which will be used in the case that you'd like to edit or delete your ad.
* If you'd prefer not to provide an e-mail address, the ad ID and passcode will be displayed on the screen for you to print out or write down.
* If you've found an error in your ad or would like to delete it, you can click on the "Edit or Delete an ad from the Swap Page" link on the bottom of the Swap Page. This will take you to a page where you can enter your ID and passcode and either delete or edit your ad.

It is my hope that the addition of these features will make the Swap Page much more usable for all of you.

The ads from last year will not be put into the new system. To see those ads, please follow the link toward the bottom of the swap page.

The pages have undergone testing to make sure that all of the features work correctly, but if you find something wrong or have any questions, please e-mail me at: keith@studebakerswap.com.

New Ad System

Starting tomorrow, January 1st, the current ad system will no longer allow ads to be added. You will still be allowed to review the ads from the last three months though. I will be working to switch over to a completely new ad system tomorrow and once it is up and running you will be able to add new ads to that system. The new system will now allow for posters to edit and delete their own ads. Please look here for the announcement for the new system.
